Is James Cameron the new Al Gore?
Well he hasn’t won the Nobel Prize, but its clear that he is letting his Avatar numbers go to his head.
When discussing why he chose Earth Day to release the DVD he responded:
“Earth Day seemed like a great opportunity to remind people that Avatar is a film that has helped us raise consciousness about the issues and the human relation to our planet all around the world and it’s given people a sense of almost moral outrage at the destruction that we create. . . it helps us to imagine the problems, imagine the solutions, imagine the relationship, that we as people have to have with our planet, you know, to make us more like the Navii”
For the record I liked Avatar in spite of the environmental message and naturalistic pantheism that bludgeoned me over the head during the film. It appears, however, that Cameron isn’t finished.
The Avatar Earth Day Initiative is set to plant over 1 million trees and Cameron has already delayed the construction of a hydro-electric dam in Brazil to ‘save the Amazon.’ To top that off he is also attending a Climate Rally in Washington, D.C. on April 25 for Earth Day’s 40th Anniversary. (Wait a minute, isn’t hydroelectric power a clean source of energy?)
Whew. Why didn’t this man get an Oscar? Oh right. . . its because he ‘didn’t have breasts.‘
