Durant’s scoring pace ahead of current stars

In his third season, Suitland native Kevin Durant could finish the season as the NBA’s leading scorer. If that happens, he’ll do something sooner than other current stars.

Durant has scored at least 25 points in 21 straight games, leaving him second in scoring behind Carmelo Anthony (29.7 to 29.6).

»  Anthony averaged 26.5 points in his third season and did not surpass 29.0 points per game until this season, his seventh. He hasn’t led the league in scoring.

»  LeBron James averaged 31.4 points in his third year and led the NBA in scoring in his fifth (30.0).

»  Dwyane Wade averaged 27.2 points in his third season and led the league in scoring last season, his sixth (30.2).

»  Kobe Bryant scored 19.9 points per game in season three and didn’t top Durant’s current mark until his seventh season when he averaged 30.0. He’s led the league in scoring twice, but not until his 10th season.
