Oliver Stone: Smartphones can ‘burn your life to the ground’

The surveillance capability of a smartphone is enough to “burn your life to the ground,” Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone is reminding viewers in a new public service announcement.

“It allows certain parties to track your every move. Every time you make a call, send a text, we are giving them access,” Stone states in the PSA. “The information you’re putting out into the world voluntarily is enough to burn your life to the ground.”

The PSA, titled “Turn Off Your Phone,” was produced to run at the beginning of “Snowden,” a Stone-directed film centering on the escapades of former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden. The movie is set for a Sept. 16 release.
