Warning: Expect Metro delays this weekend

Metro trips are going to take longer this weekend, pretty much throughout the system except on the Yellow Line.

The transit agency is planning to force trains to share a single track in six locations this weekend, plus shut down service between two stations at the southern end of the Blue Line.

Here’s where the work is planned:

Shutdown:

BLUE LINE:

  • Between Franconia-Springfield Largo and Van Dorn Street stations, riders will need to take a free shuttle bus instead of the train.

 Single-tracking:

RED LINE:

  • Between Grosvenor and Twinbrook stations
  • Between Takoma and Forest Glen stations

ORANGE/BLUE:

  • Between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory
  • Between Vienna and West Falls Church
  • Between Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street

 GREEN LINE:

  • Between Southern Avenue and Naylor Road stations

The transit agency recommends riders add on about 20 minutes when planning their trips. The work runs from 10 p.m. Friday and runs through Sunday.

Why is Metro doing this to your weekend? It’s all part of the transit agency’s new $5 billion rebuilding plan to return the system to working order and meet safety recommendations. They say a little pain now means a lot of gains later.
