Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told U.S. officials on Wednesday that he is ready to resume peace talks with Israel, the Jerusalem Post is reporting.
Abbas made the comments during a meeting in Ramallah with Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and the U.S. consul-general in Jerusalem, Daniel Rubenstein.
Abbas’ commitment coincides with President Obama’s newly-revived push to restart the peace talks.
Steinberg is carrying Obama’s message to Israel, Jerusalem and the West Bank this week.
On Friday, he will participate in the U.S.-Israel Strategic Dialogue with senior Israeli leaders to discuss the countries’ mutual security and partnership, according to the State Department.
