Cynthia Nixon denied Democratic Party nomination for New York governor

Former “Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon lost her bid Wednesday to secure the New York Democratic Party’s nomination for governor.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo received 95 percent of the votes cast by delegates attending the state party’s nominating convention, meaning Nixon was well short of the 25 percent she needed to be automatically listed on the ballot for the Democratic gubernatorial primary on Sept. 13, per the Democrat & Chronicle.

Nixon said she intends to circulate petitions and gather enough signatures so she can contest the primary, the New York Daily News reports.

Hillary Clinton gave the keynote address at the convention Wednesday, the former secretary of state and U.S. senator from New York warned Democrats they face an uphill battle as they fight for liberal causes against a Republican president and a GOP-controlled Congress.
