Kevin McCarthy hints at GOP’s 2015 agenda

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy considers it a given that his party will control Congress after the midterms, and he’s sketched out a 2015 agenda.

In a memo sent to House Republicans Wednesday morning, the California Republican called for “restoring competency in government” in the upcoming 114th Congress.

“The inability of the government to accomplish its most basic tasks has eroded the public’s trust in government, as polls have repeatedly shown,” McCarthy wrote. The memo was first reported by Politico.

“Worse, throughout the country there is an emerging sense of resignation that our great country is on the decline,” McCarthy wrote.

McCarthy, the No. 2 House Republican, hopes a Republican-led Senate will tackle energy-related legislation and streamline government agencies, among other hot-button issues.
