President Trump said special counsel Robert Mueller’s work on the federal Russia investigation is finished.
“Nothing changes from the Mueller Report,” Trump tweeted Wednesday. “There was insufficient evidence and therefore, in our Country, a person is innocent. The case is closed! Thank you.”

The tweet comes after Mueller announced he was resigning from the Justice Department and said charging Trump with a crime was “not an option we could consider,” citing Justice Department policy.
“If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime we would have said so,” Mueller said. “We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime.”
Mueller also said he did not plan to testify before Congress, adding that “any testimony from this office would not go beyond our report.”
“We chose those words carefully, and the work speaks for itself, and the report is my testimony,” Mueller said. “I would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before Congress.”
The Trump campaign claimed Mueller didn’t present any new information and argued Trump had been cleared of any wrongdoing. The campaign also said it was time to examine the origins of the Russia investigation, as Attorney General William Barr has assigned a federal prosecutor in Connecticut to investigate the issue.
“President Trump has been fully and completely exonerated,” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement. “Mueller said his investigation is over. The case is now closed.”
“Now it’s time to turn to the origins of the Russia hoax and get to the bottom of why the Trump campaign was spied on by the Obama-era DOJ and FBI,” he said. “Anyone who is for transparency, constitutional civil liberties, and the rule of law should want to know why human sources, wiretapping, and unmasking were used to infiltrate a presidential campaign.”
