Madigan blasts ruling on disgraced cop’s pension

CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she’s “extremely disappointed” in a state supreme court ruling that will allow an imprisoned former Chicago police commander to keep receiving his $3,000-a-month pension.

Madigan made her statement Thursday morning, about 2 hours after the court released a 4-3 ruling that Madigan cannot challenge a police pension board vote preserving payments to former police lieutenant Jon Burge. Burge is in federal prison after being convicted of perjury in connection with testimony he gave in a civil case involving torture allegations.

Madigan had harsh words for the ruling. She says it will “allow a torturer and convicted felon to receive his tax-payer funded pension.”
