Buddy Roemer: Romney’s a ‘1 percenter’ and Obama ‘wishes he was’

Buddy Roemer is still running for president, guys. And you’d never know by his upbeat demeanor or cheerful trash talk that the man has been shut out of every national debate and is polling in the single digits.

“Most every other candidate that started off running for president has stopped,” the former Louisiana governor told Yeas & Nays. “They’ve been whipped. They all owe money, from Pawlenty to Huntsman. It’s a disgrace.” Roemer pointed out that his campaign, which is keeping up a full travel scheudle, is debt free. “We pay all of our bills,” he said, despite capping campaign donations at $100.

Roemer didn’t have kinder words for Mitt Romney, “who’s a 1 percenter,” he said, or President Obama, “who wishes he was.”

“They’re all the same,” he added. “Bought.”

Would the tough-talking Roemer consider being Romney’s VP? “No. Not even interested,” said Roemer. “He’s bought. Why would you be stuck living in Washington with a president who’s bought?”

So what does a day on the Buddy Roemer campaign look like? A lot of rallies at college campuses and talking to anyone who’ll listen. “I do a lot of social media,” he said. “I do a lot of tweets. I do a lot of engagement looking for new ideas.” He doesn’t mind the lack of media attention he has gotten compared to other candidates.

“The media I have gotten, it has been wonderful,” Roemer said. (He particularly enjoyed appearing on Rachel Maddow’s show, calling her “very knowledgeable.”) “I just feel blessed to be given a chance to talk my somewhat radical thoughts.” Next up: trying to get into the debates.

“We’ve got to get 15 percent,” he said. “I’m excited. We’ll see how it goes.”
