At NRA, Trump ridicules John Kerry for 2015 bike crash

President Trump deviated from his planned remarks at a speech before the National Rifle Association Friday to make fun of former Secretary of State John Kerry for crashing his bicycle into a police vehicle in 2015.

“John Kerry — not the best negotiator we’ve ever seen. He never walked away from the table except to be in that bicycle race where he fell and broke his leg. That was the only time. I said, ‘Don’t tell him you broke your leg. Just stay inside. Say you don’t want to negotiate. You’ll make a much better deal,'” Trump told attendees in Dallas Friday afternoon.

“But he broke it And I learned from that — at 73 years old, you never go into a bicycle race. You just don’t do that. I’m not 73, he was, OK,” he added.

Kerry, then serving under President Barack Obama, had been biking in Scionzier, France, during a break from talks abut the Iran nuclear deal when he crashed.

State spokesman John Kirby said at the time that Kerry had hit a curb and broken his right femur.
