Annual dinner nixed

The Quarterback Club’s annual dinner honoring the Redskins Player of the Year got a last-minute reprieve in 2009. They had no such luck in 2010, temporarily ending a tradition that dates to 1969.

“It’s due to lack of sponsorship and corporate support,” Dario Savarese, director of the organization, said. “We just don’t have the resources to pull the dinner off.”

He said they hope the event returns in 2011.

Instead of at a dinner, the organization will announce its winner, as voted by the local media, on Dec. 15 at Redskins Park.
