LA County shooting: Coroner identifies 11th victim in Lunar New Year massacre

The death toll in the Monterey Park mass shooting in California reportedly rose to 11 on Monday.

One person who was recorded as injured in the shooting reportedly died in the hospital, police confirmed during a news conference on Monday. The development has shifted the numbers to 11 dead and nine injured.

The 11th victim was a woman in her 70s. No further information was available Monday evening. The identities of 11 victims have been released. They are:

  • My Nhan, female, 65
  • Lilian Li, female, 63
  • Xiujuan Yu, female, 57
  • Valentino Alvero, male, 68
  • Muoi Ung, female, 67
  • Hong Jian, female, 62
  • Yu Kao, male, 72
  • Chia Yau, male, 76
  • Wen Yu, male, 64
  • Ming Ma, male, 72
  • Diana Tom, female, 70

The shooting occurred at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio around 10:20 p.m. local time Saturday. A Lunar New Year celebration was taking place at the venue.

The shooter, Huu Can Tran, 72, was at large for several hours before police found him dead in a van from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was found among the items in the van after an hourslong standoff with SWAT teams before they entered the vehicle.
