President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden reportedly told House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) mother that she looked “beautiful” at a recent ritzy White House dinner honoring French President Emmanuel Macron.
“Mrs. McCarthy, you look beautiful,” the younger Biden said to 82-year-old Roberta McCarthy at the December 2022 dinner, a person at the event told the New York Times on Wednesday.

Hunter Biden and the McCarthys were reportedly some of the first guests to arrive at the dinner, which was attended by top Biden donors, celebrities, politicians, and businessmen. Multiple December reports indicated that there was an interaction at the dinner between Hunter Biden and Kevin McCarthy’s mother, but it was unclear what words were exchanged.
“I’m a friend of your son’s,” Hunter Biden reportedly said, presumably referring to the House speaker’s son, Connor McCarthy.
The interaction “seemed a classic Biden-style moment of trying to charm an adversary,” the Washington Post said in December.
Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans have vowed to investigate Hunter Biden in connection to his business dealings, as well as his family. The House speaker said in December that the GOP has plans to subpoena intelligence officials who falsely claimed an October 2020 New York Post story based on Hunter Biden’s laptop was part of a Russian “disinformation” campaign.
Twitter and other social media platforms, prior to the 2020 presidential election, censored the story. It centered on how Hunter Biden introduced Joe Biden to a senior Ukrainian energy firm executive under one year before the elder Biden pressured Ukrainian government officials into firing a prosecutor investigating the firm.
The Washington Examiner verified the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s laptop in May 2022 by commissioning an examination of its contents. The examination was conducted by former Secret Service agent Konstantinos “Gus” Dimitrelos, who authored a 71-page report finding no signs of tampering.
“My analysis revealed there is a 100% certainty that Robert Hunter Biden was the only person responsible for the activity on this hard drive and all of its stored data,” Dimitrelos said at the time.
On Wednesday, House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) informed Twitter executives involved in censoring the Hunter Biden New York Post story that he would like them to testify in February. Hunter Biden may soon face charges related to allegedly illegal tax and business activities, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

Comer on Wednesday also demanded the Treasury Department hand over Hunter Biden’s bank records on his business dealings that banks flagged as “suspicious.”
“For the past two years, the Biden administration and Big Tech worked overtime to hide information about the Biden family’s suspicious business schemes and Joe Biden’s involvement,” Comer told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday. “Now that Democrats no longer have one-party rule in Washington, oversight and accountability are coming.”
