It’s official: Nick Swezey is a “Jeopardy!” champion.

The 37-year-old advertising director at The Weekly Standard won $32,001 in his first episode of the classic quiz show, which taped in July but aired Monday night.

That one-day haul is the 88th-highest ever for a single day on the show, and Swezey beat a three-time defending champ.

“I wasn’t prepared for how grueling the taping was,” Swezey told Yeas & Nays. “Doing the show was like taking the SAT in front of 12 million people while running wind sprints. With a job interview thrown in for good measure.”

He was so “wiped out,” he said, that he thought the Final Jeopardy category, “Quotes from B.C.,” referred to the comic strip by Johnny Hart. The correct answer (or is it question?) was actually Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War.”

And yes, he said, there were photos of Ken Jennings on the wall.

He’ll be back again tonight, so tune in to see whether Swezey can repeat as champion.
