Sara Netanyahu to Melania Trump: The media hates us, too

Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was overheard telling President Trump and first lady Melania Trump that the two families have something in common: The media hates them.

“You know in Israel all the people like us, the media hate us but the people love us,” Sara Netanyahu told the Trumps, according to Israel’s Channel 2. “Like you.”

“We have a lot in common,” President Trump replied, to which Netanyahu’s wife said, “we’ll talk about it over dinner.”

Trump has a tumultuous relationship with the media, often referring to the press as the “fake news” media and has called them some of them “enemy of the American people.”

“The media is really on a witch-hunt against me,” Trump tweeted this month. “False reporting, and plenty of it — but we will prevail!”

Netanyahu, who accused the press of leaking quotes from taped conversations, accused the media in January of trying to oust him from the Israeli government. “In the past few days the media has orchestrated a campaign of unprecedented scope to bring down my Likud government,” Netanyahu said in a statement on Facebook. “I can’t defend myself. I can’t tell the public the true story behind these matters, which make it clear that there was never any crime here.”

Trump arrived in Israel Monday for two days of meetings with leaders. He is meeting with both Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Trump left Friday for his first overseas trip, which includes visits to Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Vatican, Italy and Brussels.
