EarthLink approved to build Arlington wireless network

Arlington County has approved EarthLink to build out a 26-square-mile Wi-Fi network that will cover the entire county. The endeavor is expected to take a year to complete, Earthlink officials said when the pending deal was announced. Approval came Tuesday night. The network is designed for county employees to access in the field. Free hot spots will be created throughout Arlington, and residents will can sign up for the service for a $21.99 monthly fee or purchase day passes. Pasadena, Calif.-based Earthlink is paying to build the network, which will cost approximately $5 million.
