Anderson Cooper appeared on Tuesday’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers and talked about the biggest political story of the summer — Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.
Meyers, a noted liberal, asked the CNN anchor if Trump was just like other fringe candidates, such as Michelle Bachmann and Herman Cain, both of whom led the Republican field for a short time in 2011.
“You think he’s a fringe candidate? He’s leading the GOP,” Cooper said.
“She (Bachmann) was leading around this time,” Meyers interjected.
“For a split second,” Cooper replied. “I don’t think you can compare. Donald Trump defies the laws of political gravity at this point. Michelle Bachmann her star rose quickly, but it fell quickly too. Donald Trump has the money to back up whatever he wants to do, and he’s tapped into something very powerful.”
The CNN host said he takes Trump’s candidacy seriously and enjoys speaking to the billionaire because he comes without a huge entourage, tells you what’s on his mind, and then attacks you, “which is entertaining.”
