Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid praised the Pentagon’s release of UFO footage but said it “only scratches the surface” of information the public should know.
“I’m glad the Pentagon is finally releasing this footage, but it only scratches the surface of research and materials available,” the Nevada Democrat tweeted Monday. “The U.S. needs to take a serious, scientific look at this and any potential national security implications. The American people deserve to be informed.”

Earlier in the day, the Pentagon officially released three videos that showed unidentified flying objects, which the government referred to as “unidentified aerial phenomena.”
In the videos, sourced from Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets, strange objects can be seen flying at high speeds and rotating while soaring through the air as pilots in the 1,190-mile-per-hour jets mused at the unexplainable sighting. The footage was released through the Freedom of Information Act after previously being published by the New York Times.
Pentagon spokeswoman Sue Gough told the Washington Examiner, “DOD is releasing the videos in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos. The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as ‘unidentified.’”
In 2007, Reid devoted funding to the Defense Department’s $22-million Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, which was formed to investigate UFOs and reportedly ended in 2012.
