MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (AP) — Services will be Saturday for a southern Illinois teenager who collapsed while running and later died.

Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Jo Marks says 16-year-old Dakota Mitchem collapsed Wednesday after having difficulty breathing while out for a run. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Marks says Mitchem likely died of natural causes, though toxicology tests are pending.

Mitchem was a sophomore, honor student and member of the drum line at Mount Vernon Township High School.

Services for Mitchem will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
