Largely Ignored

Yesterday, C-SPAN followed coverage of the president’s address with another looming issue: A press conference held by the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, which expressed concern that the Safe Schools Improvement Act of 2010 did not sufficiently cover the obese—in other words, anti-fat bullying. But NAFA also had words regarding Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, as it seems to unfairly target “people of size.”

Executive Director Brandon Macsata mentions the first lady’s suggestion that “children of size could expect lower expectations for future success.” The panelists, it goes without saying, strongly disagree. You can watch the press conference below in its entirety. Also, enjoy the video presentation by chairman Jason Docherty. (There are more than a few Family Guy images. But what makes the video so effective is the heavy background music, seemingly inspired by Carmina Burana.)
