Robert Mueller’s evidence list against Paul Manafort reveals a life of luxury

Special counsel Robert Mueller submitted a lengthy list of evidence federal prosecutors may use in the upcoming trial of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort that gives a glimpse into Manafort’s life of luxury.

The list of 436 exhibits of evidence was submitted in the Eastern District of Virginia late Wednesday, where Manafort’s trial is slated to begin on July 25. The 69-year-old Republican lobbyist and consultant has pleaded not guilty to charges of bank and tax fraud stemming from his work as a consultant to a Russian-backed political party in Ukraine.

The evidence list submitted by Mueller shows Manafort, who is accused by the special counsel of laundering more than $30 million through offshore bank accounts, had New York Yankees season tickets in 2016, certificates of authenticity for fine art paintings, documents on luxury oriental rugs, and photos of clothing and personal jewelry from Alan Couture and House of Bijan labels.

The House of Bijan is a “by appointment” only showroom in Beverly Hills for men’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories. On its Facebook page, it says it is considered “the most expensive store in the world.”

There are also copies of payments he made to Land Rover and Mercedes Benz dealerships in Alexandria, as well as the invoice for the purchase of a 2012 Mercedes Benz SL550, a car that at the time cost at least $105,000.

Manafort’s defense team had attempted to suppress evidence seized in by the FBI in July 2017 from his Alexandria home and a storage unit he kept nearby. The federal judge in Virgnia, T.S. Ellis III rejected that motion, as did the federal judge overseeing the case against him in Washington.

Mueller’s team said they could also introduce further evidence.

“The government further respectfully requests leave of the Court to file additional exhibits if necessary,” wrote Andrew Weissman in the filing.

Mueller’s prosecutors also included photographs of all the Manafort properties, including in Arlington, Va., and in New York City, Brookly,n and Bridgehampton, New York.

Former Trump campaign deputy Rick Gates is also named in the evidence list. Gates was charged alongside Manafort, but pleaded guilty in exchange for cooperation.

Manafort was moved to an Alexandria detention center pending his trial last week, after being sent to jail originally on June 15 by the judge in the Washington due to witness-tampering charges. The Washington trial, under Judge Amy Berman Jackson, is slated to begin in September.
