EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois prosecutor and constitutional law educator soon will be a judge.
Third Circuit Chief Judge David Hylla says assistant Madison County state’s attorney Philip Alfeld has been appointed to become an associate judge. He’ll replace Dean Sweet, who retired May 30.
Alfeld has served as a Madison County prosecutor and special assistant attorney general since 1989.
He earned his law degree in 1980 from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
He is past president of the Alton-Wood River Bar Association and teaches constitutional law at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, where he lives.
