Portis likely out Sunday

Running back Clinton Portis said he likely won’t play vs. Green Bay on Sunday because of a groin injury suffered in the win at Philadelphia.Portis told 106.7 The Fan that he still hadn’t heard the results of his MRI taken Monday. But, when asked if he could play Sunday, Portis said, “I don’t think so. I don’t think the team would let me attempt to play, but who knows. I’m a speedy recoverer.”

However, he also said, “I’ll take my time to make sure I’m healed.”

Injuries such as these can take a few weeks to heal. Without knowing the results of the MRI, it’s tough to speculate. It also means Ryan Torain will carry a bigger load.

Portis will be missed as much in pass protection as anything, especially facing teams that like to blitz. Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews, Jr., is an elite pass rusher and is used all over the place. Having an experienced back to help block him is crucial.

“I think my recovery will be fast,” Portis told hosts Mike Wise and Holden Kushner. “For myself it’s just being able to come back and not having a setback as far as conditioning or anything else when the timetable is up, being able to perform at a high level and pick up where I left off in the Eagles game.”
