Shortly after her surprise victory over Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley in New York City, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a risk. She waded into Florida politics to endorse another like-minded socialist challenger to a sitting Democratic House member.
Her blessing went to Chardo Richardson, who hoped to topple Democratic Rep. Stephanie Murphy. The two had filmed this video together a year earlier on behalf of a socialist group called “Brand New Congress”:

Well, the results have just come in, and the two have little to smile about tonight. Richardson did not come very close to winning. In fact, he didn’t even win a moral victory or make a respectable show of it. He got 13.8 percent, coming up shy of 10,000 votes overall.
If Democratic voters are really getting into socialism, the voters in the Orlando-area 7th Congressional District apparently beg to differ with them.
