What a weirdough: Florida man robs pizza shop and takes hostage

A Florida man was taken into custody Tuesday after police said he robbed a Hungry Howie’s pizza shop and held one employee hostage for over seven hours.

The incident began Monday at about 5:20 p.m., Altamonte Springs Police said.


Authorities were alerted to the situation after the 49-year-old man’s wife contacted police, gave up her husband’s location, and said he had threatened suicide, according to a release the Altamonte Springs Police posted to social media.

Witnesses to the incident said the man had what “appeared to be a firearm.”


The suspect has been identified as Neal Pittard, police said.

“The subject made several threats to do harm to employees before taking one employee hostage,” the release read. “[At] approximately 1:00 am, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team entered the Hungry Howie’s and made contact with the victim and the subject.”

The victim is reportedly unharmed.

Pittard was charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and battery, the release read.
