Missy Franklin has a message for President Obama — call me back, maybe?
The four-time Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer was one of the featured guests at USA Today’s 30th anniversary party held at the National Portrait Gallery on Thursday night and told reporters a sad story of how she still hasn’t talked to the president since her big wins.
“I know the White House was trying to call me, but my phone didn’t have service and they tried to call my mom and it turned into a big mess, but it was awesome that they wanted to call,” she said of her experience at the London Olympic Games. “So I was really bummed,” she added. But wait, the Olympic Team was heading to the White House on Friday, would Franklin get to meet the Obamas then? “I’m not, I have to go to school tomorrow,” the high school senior said.
Franklin also discussed her next career move — college swimming. “It’s kind of hard because it has forced me to put a price on things like friendship, but I know that the teammates that I have in college are going to be the bridesmaids in my wedding, the people that I watch my kids grow up with, so you can’t put a price on that at all.”
