New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski had an awkward moment on national television Tuesday when the embattled governor jokingly asked the “Morning Joe” co-anchor whether they were going to discuss their “odd attraction.”
“Are we going to talk about our odd attraction?” Christie inquired after Brzezinski said she was going to steer their conversation away from the governor’s Bridgegate scandal. “That’s very awkward.”
Brzezinski, in shock, then compared Christie to President Trump.
“He just did that,” she said to her co-host and fiance Joe Scarborough to laughter from the live studio audience. “He went there. Usually Donny does that stuff. Oh, my god.”
Earlier, Christie’s appearance on the talk show’s 10th anniversary special created tension when he was asked to reflect on how he was once considered to be a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination before news broke that his staff and political appointees may have intentionally created traffic jams on the George Washington Bridge, which connects New York and New Jersey.
“Did you ever expect that bridge story when it first hit to expand the way it did?” Scarborough asked.
Christie replied sarcastically he could not “thank” MSNBC “enough for that.”
“Your network made a cottage industry for about three months on that,” Christie said. “Rachel Maddow, an hour special on the secretary to Gov. Christie.”
Scarborough quipped that the network’s “primetime thanks you as well.”
