President Trump praised the Food and Drug Administration for approving a mask sanitation technology that can decontaminate respirator masks up to 20 times.

Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump said he spoke with Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, who asked for the president’s help with getting approval for the system, which is produced by Ohio-based nonprofit group Battelle.

“Each machine, now, can disinfect 120,000 masks per day. Now, think of that,” Trump said. “It’ll be just like a new one. It can go up to about 20 times for each mask. So, each mask can go through this process 20 times.”

“They have two in Ohio, one in New York, and one will soon be shipped to Seattle, Washington, and also to Washington, D.C. So, that’s going to make a tremendous difference,” Trump added.

There have been about 160,000 cases of the coronavirus and almost 3,000 deaths in the United States since the coronavirus pandemic began, according to Johns Hopkins University.
