With President Trump set to leave the hospital Monday night, there are a few thoughts that immediately come to mind.
The fact that he is being released from the hospital suggests that he’s made steady improvement since experiencing more severe symptoms on Friday and that his current state of health is relatively good.
Let’s hope it also means that his doctors are highly confident that he is going to be fine. Because, though there’s still some uncertainty over when he was formally diagnosed, he is still within the window when COVID-19 patients have been known to take a turn for the worse.
Were Trump to be released, only to have to be readmitted, it would be an extremely worrisome sign. It would be much harder to chalk it up to him being rushed to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. Trump was clearly hesitant to go to the hospital in the first place and eager to get out. So if he returns at some point in the next week, it will be really hard to escape the conclusion that he’s in a tough spot.
Given that, it would be shortsighted to release him without a high degree of confidence that the worst is already over.
Additionally, let us hope that once Trump returns to the White House, there is a plan in place to isolate him so he can avoid any contact with staffers so he does not expose anybody else to the virus.
