President-elect Donald Trump will continue to use Twitter as commander-in-chief to talk to the nation, incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer said — adding it will be “a really exciting part of the job.”
“I think that his use of social media in particular … is gonna be something that’s never been seen before,” Spicer told Rhode Island’s WPRI in an interview that aired Monday. “He has this direct pipeline in the American people, where he can talk back and forth.”
Trump tweeted throughout the election, from the primaries to late in the general election. He has continued to use the social media platform as he waits to be inaugurated. He has more than 18 million followers on Twitter.
Across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, Trump has more than 40 million combined followers. Having such a social media presence “allows him to add an element of a conversation that’s never occurred,” Spicer explained.
“He can put his thoughts out and hear what they’re thinking in a way that no one’s ever been able to do before,” Spicer added. “He does communicate in a much bigger way than there’s ever been before, and I think that’s gonna be just a really exciting part of the job.”
Trump has caught flack from both sides of the political aisle for his use of Twitter, with some suggesting he is making policy too casually.
