House Democrats are planning to put legislative focus on passing gun background checks over other gun control legislation in an attempt to put pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told the House Democrats in a private conference call Monday that she talked to families of victims who believed background checks were most effective.
Pelosi and House Majority Whip James Clyburn agreed background checks were the most likely gun measure to pass according to CNN.
The California Democrat said her caucus needs to keep the focus on McConnell.
The Democrats’ meeting followed an announcement by President Trump on Twitter calling for Republicans and Democrats to pass a bill with background checks and immigration reform.
….this legislation with desperately needed immigration reform. We must have something good, if not GREAT, come out of these two tragic events!
