Police investigate Silver Spring bank robbery

Montgomery County police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred at the Citibank at 9400 Georgia Ave.

A man armed with a semi-automatic handgun entered the bank Friday, demanded money and fled after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. The robber is described as a black male, between 40 and 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build.

Anyone who has any information about this bank robbery or the robber is asked to call the Montgomery County police’s Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.

Body found in Fairfax County lake identified

Fairfax County police say the body of a man found in Lake Barcroft has been identified as 24-year-old Sandoval Soto of Falls Church. Soto’s body was found Nov. 29. Police said they did not suspect foul play in his death, which a preliminary investigation determined to be drowning.

Three charged with selling alcohol to minors Fairfax police conducted stings at 23 locations in the Sully and Chantilly areas to stop the illegal sale of alcohol to minors. As part of the sting, a plainclothes police cadet would try to buy alcohol without having a valid driver’s license to present to store clerks. Police said three arrests were made by plainclothes and uniformed police officers.

Montgomery County inmate found dead Montgomery County police say an inmate at the county jail has died. The inmate was found early Sunday hanging from his bed with a sheet around his neck. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. Correctional officers had been checking on the inmate every half-hour.

No foul play is suspected, but detectives are following protocol and investigating the death. The inmate’s name has not been released.
