Sensics brings virtual reality system to market

Baltimore-based Sensics Inc., a virtual reality display systems company, has unveiled its new product, piSight, a high-end panoramic virtual reality display system that delivers an unprecedented feeling of space and mass in a lightweight head-mounted display.

PiSight is the product of nearly 10 years of research supported by NASA and a global car company. It uses a breakthrough patented optical design that provides a 3-D

wraparound visual sensation with a 15-degree field of view, 2200×1200 pixels per eye, in full color.

The head-mounted display weighs just two pounds and includes an integrated six-degree motion tracker for a full-immersive virtual reality experience. The piSight system is controlled by a high-performance computer cluster, and includes an interactive 3-D viewer supported by most commercial CAD packages, supports video feeds if required and allows porting existing applications so that they can take full advantage of its unique characteristics.
