Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis admits she hasn’t done a lot of cooking for the Washington famous. “The Bushes, but they’re probably not very popular,” she said of Bush 43. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a prominent pol in her sights. “Bill Clinton’s on my list. I’m aiming high,” she told Yeas & Nays Sunday, while in town for the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show at the Washington Convention Center. She’s clearly thought it through, too, having both vegetarian and vegan recipes in mind. If Clinton is willing to go vegetarian (he’s apparently eating vegan these days) she recommended lentil and Swiss chard rolls. “They sound like they’re too healthy,” she said, but they’re not. “They’re baked in the oven with a little tomato sauce and they are spectacular, so I might make him that.” For a vegan dish she suggested an orzo with a smoked tomato sauce. And for dessert? “I just wrote this recipe for fabulous vegan truffles with candied ginger on the outside,” she gushed.
