3-Minute Interview » Eve Zibel

Eve Zibel is a Washington resident and a White House producer for Fox News. Zibel started working for Fox in 2000 and has made her way around various assignments, including a stint on “Special Report With Brit Hume” and producing packages on Capitol Hill. She was made a full-time member of the Fox News White House team in 2007.

What is your job like?

So busy I barely have time to breathe! It’s exciting, enthralling, challenging and exhilarating. It is at once the best and also toughest job I’ve ever had. In terms of day to day, it changes all the time. One day I can be in the East Room watching the president take audience questions in a town hall, and the next day I’m on a plane to Arizona so I can fly back to Washington on Air Force One. And then there are days that I am in our bureau near Capitol Hill brainstorming and planning future stories.

What’s your favorite thing about working at the White House?

What isn’t? Every day that I walk up to the White House and through the gates, I’m amazed at how lucky I am to have this job. There are always tourists standing outside the White House, and they gawk at the people going in and out — and I’m one of them! I love the camaraderie between the press corps as well. It’s wonderful to have friends at all the other networks and newspapers. For all the work we do and the hours we put in, it’s comforting to know there are people who understand.

How is covering the Obama administration different from President Bush?

I don’t think it’s different at all. I think there is more interest right now in President Obama than there was in President Bush at the end of his administration, and because of that it makes the job tougher. But it’s still the White House, and to me that means we still have to cover all the events and policy issues as closely as we did in the past, and make sure that we have the best insight possible to give all Fox viewers the most up-to-date information.

Is TV all huge egos and men in pancake makeup?

No! There is a lot of makeup lying around, but there are no huge egos at Fox. And certainly not in the White House booth! All the reporters at Fox are extremely intelligent, with backgrounds from across the world. And you can learn so much from every single one of them. But I bet if you asked the men, they’d prefer not to wear the makeup!
