Pro-Trump group praises Lisa Murkowski for supporting tax overhaul, Alaska drilling

A pro-Trump political group began airing TV ads in Alaska Tuesday praising Lisa Murkowski for helping to advance the GOP’s tax overhaul, a reward for one of the Republican senators once thought to be among the most likely to waver on tax cuts.

The ad, backed by the nonprofit 45Committee group funded by Republican donors, also cites Murkowski’s “bold leadership” in opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling.

The pro-drilling measure, long supported by Murkowski and passed by the Energy Committee she chairs, is included in the tax bill that Republicans aim to put on President Trump’s desk this year.

Not only did Murkowski vote for the Senate version of the bill, she also serves as a member of the conference committee that is trying this week to reconcile the differences between the two chambers.

The 30-second spot will air on TV in the Anchorage region, according to the group. 45Committee is spending eight figures to support the tax push.
