Final score: Panthers 20, Redskins 17
1st Qtr | 2nd Qtr | 3rd Qtr | 4th Qtr
» Not sure if the Panthers would have scored, but Jake Delhomme was awfully late on the end zone throw to Steve Smith. But Carlos Rogers was there to prevent the score.
» Even if the Redskins win, they’ll leave this game really banged up. Man, seems like every other play someone is getting hurt.
…Defensive end Andre Carter is having a terrific game rushing the passer, making noise against a top tackle in Jordan Gross. That’s as active as Carter has been in a long time.
» Need to find out more what constitutes interference on a punt return. Sure looked like Byron Westbrook got knocked into Antwaan Randle El. Westbrook has done a good job on special teams, but he seemed to lack awareness on this one. You can’t allow yourself to get that close to the punt returner.
» Zorn made a mistake challenging that play. It had no chance of winning and now the Redskins lost a crucial time out. Wonder what he was told in the headset.
» The Redskins’ defense is starting to give up bigger gains on the ground, missing tackles too. Bad sign.
» The Panthers did a good job getting the Redskins into a nickel defense and then running. The receiver, Muhsin Muhammed, made a nice block on safety LaRon Landry. The Redskins also were bunched more to the inside and that made Jonathan Stewart’s hole a big one.
» Mike Williams’ stamina is an issue. If he has to pass protect a lot in the fourth quarter, watch out. It’s clear that minus Chris Samuels on the left side and weak blocking elsewhere, the Redskins have gone to much quicker routes and throws.
» The run blocking is an issue, as it has been for a while. It’s amazing how little they could do against a defense that had struggled in the first three games.
» Wasted time outs; blown challenge call costs the Redskins a lot of time in the fourth quarter.
» Should Devin Thomas make that catch? Would have been a tough grab, but certainly not impossible.
» A bootleg on a crucial third down by the Panthers. DeAngelo Hall did not “play with his eyes” as he is instructed to do. It cost them. And then he compounds it by trying to grab at his shoulder pads.
