Larry Wilmore officially took over Stephen Colbert’s slot on Comedy Central last night, and he dove straight into race relations–with a side of mocking Al Sharpton.
He opened with a joke about the Oscars (“They’re so white a grand jury has decided not to indict them.”) But he then noted that Al Sharpton, for some reason, has thrown himself head-first into the controversy over this year’s lack of black nominees, and called for an “emergency meeting” at the White House.
“Sharpton? Again?” Wilmore demanded. “I mean, no else can represent us?”
“You don’t have to respond to every black emergency,” Wilmore suggested. “You’re not black Batman!”
He even poked fun at Sharpton’s extreme weight loss in recent years–“You need to eat food, not just airtime.”
