In just one month South Lakes High’s boys basketball team has gone from a group built around a premier big man in Julian Vaughn to a more speedy, guard-laden squad.
The transfer of the 6-foot-9 Vaughn to Oak Hill Academy last month was a huge blow to the Seahawks.
But South Lakes recently bolstered its backcourt with the addition of rising junior star A.J. Price, who is a transfer student from Flint Hill Prep.
The 6-foot-4 Price, who officially enrolled at South Lakes back on July 10, was a first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Conference selection for the Huskies last winter when he averaged 10 points, five assists and five rebounds per game.
Price will join a Seahawks team returning five of its top six scorers from last season, besides Vaughn.
“A.J. is another one of those exceptionally quick guards who gives us a chance to stretch out the defense a little more,” South Lakes coach Wendell Byrd said. “A couple of our kids have grown a little bit more the last few months so we’re going to have a nice size team with some versatility.”
