Fox News’ audience during President Trump’s “Salute to America” speech more than doubled that of CNN and MSNBC combined.
4.65 million people watched the president address the nation on Fox News, with just under 800,000 in the key 25-54 age demographic, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Comparatively, just under 1.5 million viewers watched CNN’s coverage of the celebration with 353,000 in the key demo, despite them not airing the entirety of Trump’s speech. Once they stopped airing the speech, a CNN panel called the speech“rudimentary” and “basic” while suggesting that it could’ve been from Wikipedia or Schoolhouse Rock.
During the same time frame, MSNBC had an audience of 374,000 people while they rebroadcasted the first Democratic presidential debate instead of Trump’s address. MSNBC weekend host Joy Reid mocked Fox News for their “wall-to-wall” coverage of the event on her show Sunday.
MSNBC and CNN’s cumulative audience was slightly under 2 million people, which was dwarfed by Fox News’ audience for the special event.
