WHO: Former Putnam County (Ind.) Sheriff Mark Frisbie

WHAT: U.S. Department of Justice officials say Frisbie misappropriated official funds to pay for personal and political expenses.

HOW: Frisbie’s department received approximately $45,000 in federal grants during the period in which federal investigators claim he used tax dollars to pay for expenses connected to his re-election campaign, to double-reimburse himself for meals and other expenses, to pay travel expenses for his stepdaughter and for himself, and to pay for expenses connected to his private security company.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Earlier this year, former Putnam County Sheriff’s Department manager George Alexander, 59, was given an 18-36 month prison sentence for stealing an estimated $90,000 in federal funds.
