Collision involving Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue’s motorcade injures 3

One Agriculture Department staffer and two staffers for House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway were injured and taken to the hospital following an accident with Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue’s motorcade on Thursday.

The incident occurred in El Campo, Texas, outside of Houston, where officials were examining damage from Hurricane Harvey, Politico reported.

According to the Texas Tribune photographer Bob Daemmrich, who witnessed the accident, one of the SUVs in Perdue’s motorcade pulled out onto a road and collided with a semi-trailer. Both vehicles crossed the median and ended up on the opposite side of the highway.

Conaway and Perdue were not involved in the accident and Conway’s office said the staffers taken to the hospital are in stable condition.
