Fenty names interim head for DCRA

Mayor Adrian Fenty Friday named Linda Argo as the interim director of the troubled Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.

Argo, a longtime D.C. government employee, was promoted from her position as DCRA deputy director, where she led the agency’s communications and customer service improvements.

She also served for six years as chief of staff and communications director in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer.

A press release on Argo’s appointment issued by the mayor’s office did not indicate whether Argo has experience in the permitting, licensing or building code arenas, three of DCRA’s key charges.

Argo’s appointment follows the departure Wednesday of Lisa Morgan, who resigned one day after Fenty criticized DCRA in an Examiner article as an all-around “substandard” department.

A national search for a permanent director could take six months.
