GoFundMe donations for family of fallen Secret Service agent pass $250,000

An online fundraising effort for the family of a Secret Service agent who died this week surpassed its latest goal Thursday of $250,000.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by a former coworker of special agent Nole Remagen, 4,427 people had donated $262,498 as of press time.

Remagen suffered a stroke on Monday in Scotland during President Trump’s overseas trip, and died in a hospital on Tuesday. He was surrounded by family and colleagues. His body was returned to the U.S. on Wednesday afternoon.

The president and first lady Melania Trump went to Joint Base Andrews to pay their respects to Remagen’s family, the White House said Wednesday.

“Our hearts are filled with sadness over the loss of a beloved and devoted Special Agent, husband, and father. Our prayers are with Special Agent Remagen’s loved ones, including his wife and two young children. We grieve with them and with his Secret Service colleagues, who have lost a friend and a brother,” Trump said in a statement.

Remagen was a 19-year veteran of the Secret Service. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

“During my time living in the Washington DC area I have worked with Nole multiple times throughout his career and almost daily with his father for numerous years. I have set up and organized this campaign with the hope the funds collected through this platform help to ease the burden that surely is ahead for Nole’s wife, two young children and the entire Remagen family,” reads the description on the GoFundMe page.

“All money raised through this campaign has been set up for Nole’s wife to have exclusive and direct access to all funds collected,” the page’s creator, David Cruea, adds. “This is the only official fundraising site for Nole E. Remagen and his family. All other fund raising platforms or campaigns should be verified prior to contributing.”
