President Trump put Secretary of Energy Rick Perry on the National Security Council Wednesday, reinstating the head of the Energy Department to the council after removing him in February.
In the same memo that showed Chief Strategist Steve Bannon had been taken off the panel, Trump named Perry to the principals committee of the National Security Council. It’s the same position his predecessor Ernest Moniz held.
Perry, the former governor of Texas, took over as energy secretary in early March. The energy secretary is responsible for the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal as well as the security of the nation’s energy grid infrastructure.
The secretary of energy had been named as a regular attendee of the National Security Council in Trump’s February memo, but was taken off the principals committee.
