Trump slams police chief over Chicago murder rates: ‘Afghanistan is a safe place by comparison’

President Trump bashed Chicago Police Chief Eddie Johnson after he decided to skip the president’s speech before the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

When Trump revealed that he would be speaking at the conference, Johnson announced he would be boycotting the event because the president doesn’t honor Chicago’s “core values as a city.”

This decision frustrated Trump, who condemned the chief for his “insulting” boycott.

“Here’s a man that could not bother to show up for a meeting of police chiefs, the most respected people in the country, in his hometown and with the president of the United States. And you know why?” Trump asked. “It’s because he’s not doing his job.”

Trump highlighted the murder rates in Chicago and noted that more than 1,500 people had been murdered under Johnson’s watch.

“Since Eddie Johnson has been police chief, more than 1,500 people have been murdered in Chicago, and 13,067 people have been shot,” Trump explained.

“It is embarrassing to us as a nation. All over the world, they’re talking about Chicago. Afghanistan is a safe place by comparison,” he later added.

Beyond Johnson, Trump mocked Chicago’s gun control policies, calling them the toughest in the nation and saying, “That doesn’t seem to be working too well, does it?”

He also brought up “wise-guy” Jussie Smollett, the Empire actor who faked a hate crime in Chicago.

“[He] beat up himself,” Trump said. “And he said MAGA country did it. MAGA country … That’s a hate crime. That’s a hate crime. And it’s a scam. It’s a real big scam, just like the impeachment of your president is a scam.”
