Romney eats Subway, flies Southwest

To heck with concerns about his $12 million dollar oceanfront mansion renovation project, this week GOP hopeful Mitt Romney is doing his best to show just how much of an American he is.

He posted a picture of himself on Thursday with a Subway breakfast sandwiches. “Better than the usual campaign diet of morning donuts,” he happily tweeted. He praised Southwest Airlines on several occasions, too, using the budget carrier to get between New Orleans and Tampa that same morning.

“Gov. Romney flies coach whenever possible,” explained Romney spokesman Ryan Williams. “We are running a fiscally conservative campaign.” Romney’s staff generally flies coach as well, though they might have to charter a jet for the candidate, staff and press to get between campaign stops when the campaign starts to heat up.

No word on why Romney chose Southwest for this particular trip, though we bet it’s because bags fly free or maybe he just enjoys those airplane-shaped crackers that the flight attendants pass out.
