The Nations are having a great time playing the Twins and Johnny Holiday who is subbing for Bob Carpenter is doing a great job along side Don Sutton.
Holiday who handles ABC Radio sports and is the voice of Maryland football and basketball seems at home doing baseball and he and Sutton have done a fine job while Carpenter is having some quality time at home for the weekend with his wife and family in Tulsa.
Look for Carpneter and Sutton to be together again on Tuesday when the Nationals and the Orioles get together in Baltimore.
Speaking of the Orioles, this weekend the team of Jim Durham and Rick Dempsey have been in the booth subbing as well.
Both Durham and Dempsey are doing a fine time giving Gary Thorne, Buck Martinez and Jim Palmer a rest before all come back for the Battle of the Betway II come Tuesday.
This really shows the deep the MASN broadcast bench is!
ESPN/ABC had some good and bad moments at the Belmont yesterday.
On the good side the pre race coverage was solid with plenty of key information and Chris Fowler handled the hosting job well.
But unlike NBC who had a great series of replays when they had a photo finish at the Preakness, alas that was not the case with the ESPN/ABC Belmont coverage.
Also they had audio issues when they were talking with some of the losers in the post race coverage. There was the clear voice of some woman covering the winner, and with over 100 mics being used I have been there.
It is a malox moment for the production crew.
Overall they get a solid B.
