Former President George W. Bush says he doesn’t remember if he said “that was some weird shit” as he was leaving the platform at President Trump’s inauguration.
“If I said it, I don’t remember it, but I’m glad I went to the inauguration,” Bush told NPR in an interview that aired Thursday morning. “It’s a really beautiful experience to watch the peaceful transfer of power.”

New York Magazine reported that three people heard Bush turn to fellow attendees and make the comment.
Bush said his only regret about Inauguration Day was not figuring out his rain poncho. A photo of the 43rd president struggling to put on the poncho as it started to rain found Internet fame shortly after the inauguration.
“My daughters were aghast. You know, ‘Dad, you’re a national tweet sensation,’ or whatever they say. ‘You’re trending,’ or whatever the words are. And I said, ‘I don’t know what the heck that means.’ But then I saw the pictures, and I can see why I was trending,” Bush said.
